Together, the Urban League affiliates of Chattanooga, Knoxville, Memphis and Middle Tennessee (Nashville) —collectively known as the Tennessee Urban League Affiliates (TULA) work to improve their local communities by providing targeted services in the areas of education, jobs, health and housing. In 2010, TULA joined the National Urban League’s Equity and Excellence Project to build on their education programs and improve the policies that affect underserved students. One focus area is the equitable implementation of the Common Core State Standards.

Great Partners Make it Easy

On April 4th, 2012 Sea Ray of Knoxville, a local boat manufacturer, hosted a Behind the Business Tour for middle school students in the Project Ready program of the Knoxville Area Urban League.  The event was so impressive that staffers from the National Urban League hope to “bottle the magic” so more businesses can partner with Urban League affiliates to replicate this success nationwide.

Kyshira Moffett Inspired to Pursue Her Dreams

As a leader on my campus, I have had the opportunity to work with the BEEP Program in 2012 and in 2013 at Hampton University. Interacting with several BEEPers has inspired and influenced me to become active with the National Urban League upon graduation. I have gained new wisdom and insight through the BEEP program. Students who attend the BEEP Program gain a priceless learning experience by interacting with top corporate executives who look like them.
